Carnosine acts as an Intra-muscular buffer preventing a reduction in pH (i.e. delaying the build up of acidity in the muscle). This build up of Hydrogen ions limits the ability to continue high intensity movements throughout exercise. Carnosine is also a powerful antioxidant helping to fight against free radicals and reduce cell damage.
Caffeine: The most widely used stimulant in the world is caffeine. It enhances energy and focus, as well as reduces the feeling of effort when doing work. Whilst the actual underlying mechanism of how caffeine works is still unclear, though it is though to spare muscle glycogen somehow, the results from numerous studies speak for themselves. Caffeine ingestion (3-9 mg/kg BW) prior to exercise increases performance during prolonged endurance exercise and short-term intense exercise.
